Midnight in Suwon - Day 31

Hello to the 31st midnight in Suwon.

Today being a much more special day.

I finally got a new phone. Dad brought me a sim card for me to use for the phone and I was able to start using this phone. IT wasnt like the newest model but to me was enough as long as I could send out calls and sms. Also, today was the first day of my work at the Children's Great Park where I was supposed to take care of kindergarten kids and teach them English.

Woke up this morning at 6:30 as mom woke me up. Had a short sleep the last night as I was figuring out the use of the new phone that I just got the last night till like 1am. Also had another quarrel with mom about my name. Mom was eager to change my name to some other name. She wanted to change sis' name too. I wanted to stay as Youngsub either the name sounds nice or not. It's how i'd been living all my life and that's who I am already. I do not want to be someone I'm not.

I had a heavy breakfast thanks to mom, began using phone as I had sometime left before I left for work. It was really cold in the morning when I left home to walk to the train station that was 15 mins walk away. On walking there, was several thoughts on how to use the phone and how to deal with the kids today. I knew in myself that today is the only day to prove myself. I need to get the job. This job ain't like something that's really important or must clench but it always disheartens me to fail at something. It's time to do well at sth and excel at sth. It's only one day. And everything will be assessed on just today, so either am I a slow starter or what, I must make the impression today. Had a long journey of two hours to the workplace. I called the interviwer and asked what I should do. She directed me on the phone for who to see. I got into the office and there was the girl who had interviewed tgt with me that time sitting there. I was so glad to see her and asked her whether is she working ful-time. She told me that the interviewer is going to assess her performance today and think whether to give her the job or not. It was the same case for me and her. Both of us were on the same note. I changed my clothes and received all the instruction for work.

10am closed fast and the kids started to jamming in. This place had a several stations and I was assigned for one station all on my own. THis place was the most tiring place as most kids came to this station and had those woods on the pool that allows your nerves to wake up each time you walk in the pool. Inside the pool, there were dices that had English alphabets. My job was to give the kid a sticker that shows three alphabets and ask the kid to bring back the dice that has the same alphabets on the card. The first two hours of work was easy and fun. Kids cooperated well and I really enjoyed talking to each one of them. It was great feeling when I can make someone learn something and allow them to have sth. in their brain when they were going back. There were differences in every kid's awareness of English regardless of the age. Those kids that were given the chance to get access to English due to English-based kindergarten their mom enrolled in had a much of head start compared to the other kids who went to a normal kindergarten. As most of learning is faster when they are younger, those kids who were educated English in their kindergarten had a great pronunciation.

12 pm came and I was called up by the manager and went for lunch with the other three guys. The great thing was that I did not have to buy lunch on my own but get the food they gave. They ordered the food from outside restaurants and had them inside the office. As it was only guys talking, all the NS conversation came here and about.

After the quick and fast lunch meal, I went back for work and got back to taking care of kids. It was the same pattern all the way and not after long, I was called up again for another break. It was really so fast. I was in the room with one other guy and he took out his phone and used DMB to watch football that was playing live. Football always becomes the most common topic for any Korean guys. Talking about strategies and all everybody becomes a professional.

Left after a short break and it was the time that made me realise why I had a break so fast after the lunch meal. The period after 2pm was the time where most kids came in. There were really really a lot of kids and every kids came in to my station and played in the pool. I tried to catch every single of them, trying to input the simplest English knowledge so they can go back with some learning. Giving sticker was the highest motivation for them. There is this policy in here that if the kid colelct more than 12 stickers, he can change it for another bigger sticker. The kids were crazy for getting that sticker and was chasing for any stickers they can get. Once, there was these two girls that sticked to me all the while from 2pm to 6pm till I ended work and begged for all the stickers I had. They asked for it since they just entered the pool, since they were leaving the pool, since they were leaving the center, since they fell down, since they answered it correctly and all the reasons. I gave them out almost for free. Giving missions to kids and trying to teach all of them and controlling the place so kids would not fight and parents would not complain, required a lot of talking that I actually love to. However, as time past, it got me really tired that I began looking at my watch hoping time would pass fast.

Work ended sharply at 6 as kids were told to leave with their parents. It was such tiring station for the first day of this job but I was still grateful after all for I got to meet more kids, teach them more and heard from some kids that they wanted to stay in my station forever as the other station controllers aren't as friendly as me. Those praises from paretns and kids actually motiaveted as a teacher too.

It was around 6:10 and the girl who interviewed with me left the center tgt with me. I still had all the woods that stuck every places in my body. I was inside the pool for like 8 hours, all the woods had gone in to everywhere in my body. As we were walking to the train station, we called our interviewer as she had asked us to call her back after the job was done. The interviewer told us that she is going to get back to us on next Monday as she is not working on weekends. The girl complained that she is always delaying things and stuff. It was pretty reasonable that it was coming from her as the interviewer delayed to accept her for like more than 3 weeks. Talking to her all the way home, as she lived nearby, she was a nice person to talk to. Not being able to make her laugh and enjoy the conversation is all my fault. I have become a changed person.. hmm I can say i have become less confident person. I'm different from who I was. I don't have that confidence anymore after having to fail to make friend with Kyungmin that time. I just feel that I am lame and not a great person talking to.... Hope I could wake up and gain back my confidence.and learn to communicate with people.

Goodnight...
